Homelab [hom-læb](n): a laboratory of (usually slightly outdated) awesome in the domicile

Welcome to Homelab.wiki – currently, we are working on getting the site setup and adding content, please be patient while we get this up and running! This is currently a hobby of a fellow “homelabber” and new content will be added slowly.

Why build a Homelab?

There are numerous reasons why one could want a homelab; some of which include:

  • Learning
  • Sandbox environments
  • Certifications (Cisco, MCSA, etc)
  • Media server
  • Webserver
  • Etc

Chances are if you’re interested in making a homelab you already have a use-case in mind if not there are many paths you can take to achieve what you want but keep in mind that something like a 24 core server may be completely overkilling for the use case.

The MX servers and SPF information is inaccurate and will not work if set up with the OVH Manager’s recommendations. Requirements: A fully setup Hosted Exchange service. (Fully setup meaning you have received an email from OVH saying that the service is setup and ready to go, if you attempt this without that email you will not be able to add domain users) Domain name. Logged into the OVH Control Panel TL;DR: MX Records: Priority: 1; Target: mx1.mail.ovh.ca. Priority: 5; Target: mx2.mail.ovh.ca. Priority: 50; Target: mx3.mail.ovh.ca. Priority: 100; Target: mx4.mail.ovh.ca. SPF Records: Create a text record for the root of your domain ( @ ) and add this SPF as the data. "v=spf1 include:mx.ovh.ca ~all" SRV Records: Sub-domain: _autodiscover._tcp Priority: 0 Weight: 0 Port: 443 Target: ex.mail.ovh.ca. Instructions: Step 1: Complete all the steps in this OVH Docs article Getting started with the Hosted Exchange service | OVH Guides Step 2: Once the above has been completed, ignore the suggested OVH MX servers and use the above servers. For some reason the OVH provided mail servers are like this INCORRECT MX records Priority: 1; target: mx0.mail.ovh.net. Priority: 5; target: mx1.mail.ovh.net. Priority: 50; target: mx2.mail.ovh.net. Priority: 100; target: mx3.mail.ovh.net. These MX servers are not for the Canadian Hosted Exchange. Also, check out this awesome antispam service to put in front of your hosted exchange server and stop spam for good! [...]
